The interdisciplinary conference "People on the Move - Culture and Knowledge in Transfer" will focus on historical and contemporary transformations of knowledge and culture from medieval times to the 21st century and on the mobility of educated people and groups, such as rulers, pilgrims or scholars. In doing so, the conference aims at transcending disciplinary borders as well as historical epochs.

Organised by five members of the Global Young Faculty from different academic backgrounds, it aims at providing a forum for a cross-historical and transdisciplinary discourse on mobility, knowledge transfer and cultural change. Thus, questions that will be touched upon by renowned experts during the conference will be, for instance:

  • How and why does knowledge "travel" today, as opposed to earlier times?
  • What can we learn from cultural exchanges and processes of knowledge-transfer in other historical eras?
  • Which (new) forms of knowledge transfer, cultural encounters and exchanges does contemporary migration entail?
